EOS Technologie has announced that its Veloce 330 loitering munition has entered a new phase of operational qualification, marking a significant milestone in its development. Officially unveiled on June 19, at the 2025 Paris Air Show, the system is now undergoing testing across all three branches of the French armed forces.

Developed in partnership with the KNDS group and supported by the French Defence Procurement Agency (DGA) and the Defence Innovation Agency (AID), the Veloce 330 is a medium-range loitering munition designed to enhance precision strike capabilities.

This advancement aligns with the French Ministry of the Armed Forces’ broader push to integrate loitering munitions into its arsenal, given the resurgence of intense military confrontations and the expanding role of attack drones on the battlefield.

First introduced in 2024, the Veloce 330 has steadily proven itself as a viable and advanced solution. Following more than a hundred test flights and multiple demonstrations validated by the DGA, the system has achieved a high level of technological maturity.

A video released on June 17, 2025, captures the Veloce striking a full-scale tank with missile-like speed and pinpoint accuracy, demonstrating the system’s advanced capabilities. At the core of this performance is a next-generation terminal guidance system, developed using technology from TRAAK.

Veloce 330 features and specifications

The munition combines high velocity, metric-level precision, and human-in-the-loop control, all without relying on GPS. Fully autonomous, the Veloce 330 reflects a high degree of technological sophistication tailored for modern battlefield demands.

A standout feature of the Veloce 330 is that its entire software and hardware architecture was developed in-house by EOS Technologie. This achievement not only highlights EOS’s technical expertise but also directly supports France’s strategic objectives concerning technological sovereignty and the modernisation of its firepower doctrines.

Within just a few months, the company became the first French manufacturer to independently develop a fully integrated self-guidance system for drones and loitering munitions, marking a significant milestone in national defence innovation.

Building on this foundation of autonomy and innovation, the Veloce 330 has been engineered for rapid deployment and operational simplicity. It can be assembled in under ten minutes by just two operators, making it highly adaptable for field conditions.

Powered by a compact jet turbine engine generating between 12 and 18 kg of thrust, the system reaches speeds of up to 400 km/h and altitudes of 6,000 metres. It offers an endurance of 30 minutes at a cruising speed of 200 km/h, and 15 minutes at maximum speed.

With a total take-off weight of 25 kg and a wingspan of 3.30 metres, the Veloce 330 carries a 6 kg payload. Launch is achieved via catapult, and the system is controlled over a range of up to 100 km using a lightweight ground station housed in a compact transport case. Its low acoustic signature renders it inaudible beyond a two-kilometre radius, an advantage for operations in contested or sensitive environments.

As the Veloce 330 enters a critical phase of operational testing in summer 2025, its performance will not only validate years of innovation but also help shape the future of France’s precision strike capabilities. With the Veloce 330 and its long-range counterpart, the Rodeur 330, EOS Technologie is positioning itself as a key player in the evolving landscape of European defence technology.

Long-term implications

As such, the Veloce 330 represents far more than just a new loitering munition. It exemplifies the emergence of a responsive and autonomous French defence industrial ecosystem, capable of delivering effective systems rapidly and at scale, tailored to the shifting demands of the modern battlefield.

EOS now plays a central role in this new generation of smart munitions, designed for intensive operational use and aligned with France’s broader goals of technological sovereignty and modernised firepower capabilities.

WHAT IS CPD?

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development’. It is essentially a philosophy, which maintains that in order to be effective, learning should be organised and structured. The most common definition is:

‘A commitment to structured skills and knowledge enhancement for Personal or Professional competence’

CPD is a common requirement of individual membership with professional bodies and Institutes. Increasingly, employers also expect their staff to undertake regular CPD activities.

Undertaken over a period of time, CPD ensures that educational qualifications do not become obsolete, and allows for best practice and professional standards to be upheld.

CPD can be undertaken through a variety of learning activities including instructor led training courses, seminars and conferences, e:learning modules or structured reading.

CPD AND PROFESSIONAL INSTITUTES

There are approximately 470 institutes in the UK across all industry sectors, with a collective membership of circa 4 million professionals, and they all expect their members to undertake CPD.

For some institutes undertaking CPD is mandatory e.g. accountancy and law, and linked to a licence to practice, for others it’s obligatory. By ensuring that their members undertake CPD, the professional bodies seek to ensure that professional standards, legislative awareness and ethical practices are maintained.

CPD Schemes often run over the period of a year and the institutes generally provide online tools for their members to record and reflect on their CPD activities.

TYPICAL CPD SCHEMES AND RECORDING OF CPD (CPD points and hours)

Professional bodies and Institutes CPD schemes are either structured as ‘Input’ or ‘Output’ based.

‘Input’ based schemes list a precise number of CPD hours that individuals must achieve within a given time period. These schemes can also use different ‘currencies’ such as points, merits, units or credits, where an individual must accumulate the number required. These currencies are usually based on time i.e. 1 CPD point = 1 hour of learning.

‘Output’ based schemes are learner centred. They require individuals to set learning goals that align to professional competencies, or personal development objectives. These schemes also list different ways to achieve the learning goals e.g. training courses, seminars or e:learning, which enables an individual to complete their CPD through their preferred mode of learning.

The majority of Input and Output based schemes actively encourage individuals to seek appropriate CPD activities independently.

As a formal provider of CPD certified activities, SAE Media Group can provide an indication of the learning benefit gained and the typical completion. However, it is ultimately the responsibility of the delegate to evaluate their learning, and record it correctly in line with their professional body’s or employers requirements.

GLOBAL CPD

Increasingly, international and emerging markets are ‘professionalising’ their workforces and looking to the UK to benchmark educational standards. The undertaking of CPD is now increasingly expected of any individual employed within today’s global marketplace.
