Aidan Fisher

Aidan is an export control specialist with deep experience supporting the Australian Department of Defence and defence industry in managing export controls, transfer of technology, and trade compliance.
He serves as Secretary on the Board of Directors of the Export Controls Australia Group, Australia’s not-for-profit practitioner-led network focused on strengthening national strategic trade capability through policy engagement, knowledge sharing, professional development, and international collaboration.
Until mid-2025, Aidan supported the Australian Government’s AUKUS Pillar I nuclear-powered submarine program, leading the team responsible for establishing governance and practical frameworks to enable the compliant transfer, receipt, and use of controlled submarine-related technology. He now works with Australian organisations through Kardia Compliance Solutions as Lead Consultant, helping embed export controls by design across complex programs and supply chains, and teaches export control law and management at Adelaide University.

Anne Haugen-Flermoe

Anne Haugen-Flermoe joined Nammo in 2012 in the role as legal advisor for Nammo Raufoss AS. In 2016, she was appointed Senior Vice President, Legal Affairs (now Legal & Regulatory Affairs) for Nammo AS and was also appointed to the Group Management Team. In 2021, she was appointed Chief of Staff.
Haugen-Flermoe has played a vital part in professionalizing and streamlining Nammo in a structured manner by implementing Group wide measures to better assess and mitigate legal, commercial and compliance related risks in all aspects of Nammo’s operations. Her leadership secures that Nammo is growing and developing whilst continuously focusing attention on the expanding geopolitical landscape.
• In 2018, she was instrumental in establishing the first Contracting, Procurement and Compliance Forum in Nammo, which continues to serve as an important learning and development platform across the Nammo Group which currently includes 27 Nammo sites in eleven countries.
• In 2024, she was appointed to the operating model committee for Nammo’s Momentum 2030 project to bolster Nammo’s operating model and enable growth and drive business value.
Haugen-Flermoe lives in Gjøvik, Norway. She holds a master’s in law from the University of Oslo, Faculty of Law with a focus on Corporate Criminal Liability, EPC (I) contracts and insurance law.
She is active in various board positions and enjoys travelling and spending time with her husband and two sons at their mountain cabin.

Bing Xu is Chief Counsel, Global Trade Controls, and Regional Head of Sanctions and Export Control – North America and Asia Pacific, Rolls-Royce North America Inc. Ms. Xu has extensive regulatory and transactional expertise, coupled with unique cultural understanding, diplomatic style, and leadership presence. She was trained as a diplomat with a graduate degree in economics and worked at a major law firm in Washington, DC before joining Rolls-Royce. As Chief Counsel, she advises Rolls-Royce businesses globally, cross functions and regions, in corporate strategies and governance, sanctions and export control compliance, and foreign investment/M&A. She also oversees Rolls-Royce trade control professionals globally as the Regional Head of Sanctions and Export Control for North America.

Brinley Salzmann

Brinley Salzmann

Brinley joined the Defence Manufacturers Association (DMA), at first on a temporary basis, in July 1985, having graduated from Sheffield University with a BA in Ancient History & Classical Civilisation. He worked for the DMA in a number of roles, before being appointed to the position of Exports Director in June 1999. In October 2009, on the creation of ADS through the merger of the DMA, APPSS and SBAC, he became the new organisation’s Director - Overseas & Exports.

The vast majority of his work at present constitutes providing ethical, offset, industrial participation and export controls-related help, advice and assistance to British companies. In this capacity he acts as Secretary to the Export Group for Aerospace, Defence & Dual-Use (EGADD), the Business Ethics Network (BEN), the Defence Export Strategy Group (DESG), and the British Industrial Participation & Offset Group (BIPOG) special interest groups.

As Secretary to EGADD, he tries to provide help and advice to companies on export control matters and liaises closely with the Export Control Joint Unit (ECJU), Ministry of Defence (UK), Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), Department for International Development (DfID) and Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs (HMRC), as well as with other Industry bodies and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs). He is also a Member of the Board of the London Trade Roundtable (LTR) as well as of the Export Control Profession (ECP).

Dave Richards

Dave Richards leads the global Sanctions & Export Control (S&EC) function within the Defense Division of Rolls-Royce, a role he has held since 2022. His 26-person team enables the success of the company’s international defense activities and ensures compliance. Concurrently, he is the SSA Technology Control Officer for Rolls-Royce North America and the VP - Export Compliance for LHTEC. He previously served as Deputy Global Head of the Defense Division S&EC function and as leadership for the North America-based team. Earlier in his career at Rolls-Royce, he established and led the Corporate Export Control Audit Program for the company’s North American operations.

Dave is also a 20-yr retired Lieutenant Colonel of the United States Army. As an Armor officer, he held a series of leadership roles, including deployments, at platoon through division level. He commanded both a Reconnaissance Squadron in the 76th Infantry Brigade Combat Team and the Southern Battalion of the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) Mission in Egypt. His combined military and industry experience brings a strategic perspective to compliance within the global defense sector.

Håkan Eriksson has been Head of Section at the department of Military Equipment at the Inspectorate of Strategic Products (ISP) since 2023. The ISP is an independent Swedish Administrative Authority. The task of the ISP amongst others is to control the exports of military equipment and dual-use products, and to be the Swedish screening authority for foreign direct investments. He has previously worked at the Government offices as a Deputy Director at the Ministry of Finance and as Special Advisor at the Ministry of Infrastructure. Prior to that he was an Associate Judge at the Administrative Court of Appeal in Stockholm.

Katie Donaldson

Katie Donaldson is an accomplished Senior Trade Compliance Leader with 15+ years of experience in the public policy, space, and aerospace and defense sectors. Her experience includes developing, implementing, and scaling global trade compliance programs in line with ITAR, EAR, and OFAC regulations, with a proven track record in building high-performing teams and driving process improvements that ensure regulatory adherence and mitigate risk. agencies and internal stakeholders to support global growth initiatives.

She is currently Senior Director, Strategic Licensing at GE Aerospace, where she is responsible for setting the strategic vision for obtaining export authorizations, including for new product/program campaigns and leading US Government engagement activity. Previously at GE Aerospace, Katie served as the Senior Director for ITC US Operations, where she built a high-performing team of authorization specialists. Prior to GE Aerospace, Katie served as a Senior Manager for Licensing at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, where she managed the Licensing Team and provided support across the GA-ASI business. Prior to her time at GA-ASI, Katie worked at Cobham Advanced Electronic Systems, where she was responsible for the implementation of a trade automation system, built an OFAC compliance program, managed the licensing team, ran the audit and assessment program, and had oversight of the training program for all of Cobham. Katie got her start in international trade compliance while working at ILS International Launch Services on one of the launch teams. Katie ensured compliance for multiple spacecraft-launch vehicle integration programs and participated in five successful launches.

Katie earned a BA from the University of Virginia. She is currently a member of the US State Department’s Defense Trade Advisory Group.

Nat Bassi

Nat is a recognised leader in Sanctions and Export Controls compliance, with extensive experience spanning both government and industry. She holds a BA in business, an LLB and an LPC. She began her career in legal support roles before joining BAE Systems, where she implemented compliance frameworks & policy, led due diligence teams and supported Export Control compliance across Business Development, Land Systems, Munitions, Naval Ships and Head Office. Her work took her around the world, embedding best practices and strengthening compliance culture in places like Abu Dhabi and Kuala Lumpur.
Following this, Nat’s career took her to the Civil Service where she had the opportunity to work across several government departments specialising in policy, international relations and digital transformation. She led an Export Control transformation programme (WATERGUARD) for the UKMOD, enabling the collation of Export Control classifications and licences in a digital tool. She co-authored the first ever Joint Services Publication (JSP 248) relating to foreign Export Controls and the Export Control DEFCON (DEFCON 528).
Now at Rolls-Royce, as part of a global team Nat leads the UK Defence & Submarines compliance team. Nat draws on her government and industry background, her legal expertise and commercial acumen to support the success of several high-profile programmes such as GCAP, AUKUS, Typhoon, A400M and Astute. Nat’s role includes chairing several joint industry and government working groups by driving collaboration, expertise and programme priorities to the forefront.
 

Robert Brookfield

Robert Brookfield

Robert Brookfield has been Director General of the Strategic Export Controls Division at Global Affairs Canada since September 2024. The unit manages the policy and operational elements of Canada’s strategic export controls regime under the Export and Import Permits Act, as well as administers the economic (“non strategic”) export and import permit control process. Since August 2025, he has also concurrently served as Director General of the Sanctions Bureau. The Sanctions Bureau is the overall Government of Canada lead on the development and coordination of sanctions policy and operations including sanctions listings, permitting, litigation, policy development, domestic outreach, and compliance.
Previously, Robert Brookfield was Director General of the Criminal Law Policy Section at the Department of Justice for 2 years, leading the unit that develops policy and providing advisory and other support within the Department of Justice on a wide variety of legislative and programmatic initiatives, both domestic and internationally, related to criminal law. Before that Robert was Deputy Assistant Deputy Minister in the Policy Sector at the Department of Justice, leading on topics such as federal-provincial engagement related to the justice system, international engagement by the Department of Justice, and developing and delivering federal policy on improvements to the justice system.
From 2014 to March 2020, Robert was Director General, Trade Law Bureau, Government of Canada, a joint unit of Global Affairs Canada and Justice Canada. In that capacity he was responsible for overseeing counsel and other staff that provide legal advice, negotiations support, and conduct litigation for the Government of Canada in international trade and investment law issues. He directly led the legal team and the “legal and institutional” table for the the “Canada-US-Mexico Agreement” (NAFTA 2.0).
Robert joined the federal public service in 2000. He has served in various positions in the Trade Law Bureau, where among other tasks he was lead lawyer for Canada in number of free trade agreement negotiations, and acted for Canada in several cases before the World Trade Organization. In addition, he served in Global Affairs Canada in the unit dealing with issues such as sanctions and freezing terrorist assets; in the Canadian Embassy in Moscow, where he coordinated Canadian programming for projects seeking to counter the spread of weapons and materials of mass destruction; and as Director of the Technical Barriers and Regulations Division, where among other tasks he led negotiations on elements of the free trade agreements with the EU and Korea, and the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement.
Before joining the federal government, he worked as a litigator on a variety of files for 5 years at the law firm of Davis & Company, Vancouver. He has a law degree (L.L.B.) from the University of British Columbia (1995) and a Bachelor of Arts and Science (BArtsSc) from McMaster University (1992).

Rosa Rosanelli is currently Vice President, Head of Compliance for Patria Group, an international provider of defense, security and aviation life cycle support services, pilot training and technology solutions.

Rosa chairs the Export Control Committee of ASD, the European Aerospace and Defense Industry Association since 2022, she is author of several legal publications, and a member of the editorial board of the specialized peer reviews “Strategic Trade Review”, and 20 Minds.

She is also Project Lead for the “Trade Compliance Project”, a cooperation between Patria and Kongsberg Groups, which was awarded a WECR Award in 2022.

A Lawyer specialized in export controls, Rosa holds a Master in Law of Air, Space and Telecommunications at Paris XI University and a Master in International Relations (International law) at Rome La Sapienza University.

(SNC MS UK), supporting the company with U.S. and UK export controls. Prior to joining SNC MS UK, Sally was an Empowered Official and Senior Manager with the International Trade Compliance Office at Sierra Nevada Company (SNC), the parent company to SNC MS UK.     WHAT IS CPD?

    CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development’. It is essentially a philosophy, which maintains that in order to be effective, learning should be organised and structured. The most common definition is:

    ‘A commitment to structured skills and knowledge enhancement for Personal or Professional competence’

    CPD is a common requirement of individual membership with professional bodies and Institutes. Increasingly, employers also expect their staff to undertake regular CPD activities.

    Undertaken over a period of time, CPD ensures that educational qualifications do not become obsolete, and allows for best practice and professional standards to be upheld.

    CPD can be undertaken through a variety of learning activities including instructor led training courses, seminars and conferences, e:learning modules or structured reading.

    CPD AND PROFESSIONAL INSTITUTES

    There are approximately 470 institutes in the UK across all industry sectors, with a collective membership of circa 4 million professionals, and they all expect their members to undertake CPD.

    For some institutes undertaking CPD is mandatory e.g. accountancy and law, and linked to a licence to practice, for others it’s obligatory. By ensuring that their members undertake CPD, the professional bodies seek to ensure that professional standards, legislative awareness and ethical practices are maintained.

    CPD Schemes often run over the period of a year and the institutes generally provide online tools for their members to record and reflect on their CPD activities.

    TYPICAL CPD SCHEMES AND RECORDING OF CPD (CPD points and hours)

    Professional bodies and Institutes CPD schemes are either structured as ‘Input’ or ‘Output’ based.

    ‘Input’ based schemes list a precise number of CPD hours that individuals must achieve within a given time period. These schemes can also use different ‘currencies’ such as points, merits, units or credits, where an individual must accumulate the number required. These currencies are usually based on time i.e. 1 CPD point = 1 hour of learning.

    ‘Output’ based schemes are learner centred. They require individuals to set learning goals that align to professional competencies, or personal development objectives. These schemes also list different ways to achieve the learning goals e.g. training courses, seminars or e:learning, which enables an individual to complete their CPD through their preferred mode of learning.

    The majority of Input and Output based schemes actively encourage individuals to seek appropriate CPD activities independently.

    As a formal provider of CPD certified activities, SAE Media Group can provide an indication of the learning benefit gained and the typical completion. However, it is ultimately the responsibility of the delegate to evaluate their learning, and record it correctly in line with their professional body’s or employers requirements.
