Brigadier Chris Gent commissioned from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 1998 and was posted to Hohne, Germany, to join 3rd Regiment Royal Horse Artillery. He has served a varied career with multiple global training and operational deployments, and began his NATO pathway in 2021 with attendance at the Senior Course at the NATO Defense College in Rome, where he was proud to be a member of the committee winning the Eisenhower Award academic prize with their study on Emerging & Disruptive Technologies and their impact for NATO.
He has served as DCOS Transformation & Integration at HQ Allied Land Command since 2024, and now heads Task Force X - Eastern Flank Deterrence Line, which is an innovation project to explore how new technologies can be integrated into existing structures to provide better capability options for Allies.

Brigadier Ed Cartwright commissioned into The Parachute Regiment in 2002 and commanded a rifle platoon during the invasion of Iraq in 2003. Two tours of Northern Ireland followed, the first with The Parachute Regiment, the second on attachment to The Royal Irish Regiment. From 2006, he commanded on operations during three tours of Iraq and two in Afghanistan. In 2014 he was awarded the OBE for his support to the counter-ISIS coalition. In 2025 he was awarded the CBE for his role as the Chief of the Defence Staff’s Liaison Officer in Eastern Europe. On the staff, Ed has served as the Military Assistant to the Chief of the General Staff, and in Media Operations and Operation and Plans in the Ministry of Defence. He studied Geography at Oxford University and gained a Masters in International Relations and Security Studies from King’s College London as part of the Advanced Command and Staff College. Ed assumed command of 16 Air Assault Brigade Combat Team in June 2025.

He earned Ph.D. in 1992, Doctor of Sciences in 2000, Professor in 2005, Honored Scientist and Technician of Ukraine in 2008.

The scientific portfolio includes 71 patents, almost 1000 publications in these areas (90 publications was included in SCOPUS (Author ID 7004240035) and 470 publications included in ORCID 0000-0002-2912-3149). He is authority in digital signals processing, AI technologies and other areas. Since 2009 - a Member of Editorial Board of Journal "Radioelectronics and Communications Systems". Scientific advisor of 16 PhDs (candidates of technics) and 2 Doctors of Science.

COL. Doc. Ing. Jan Mazal, Ph.D., graduated from the Military College of Ground Forces in Vyskov. Since 2005, he has been a doctor in the theory of Defence Management field; since 2013, he has been an associate professor in the area of Military Management. He is a former Doctrine Education and Training Branch Chief at the NATO Modelling & Simulation Centre of Excellence in ROME. Currently, he is a chief of the Military Robotics Department at the University of Defence in Brno. His field of expertise is Military Robotics, Automation of Operational Reasoning, C4ISR Systems, and Modelling and Simulation in the Military Domain. He is the author or co-author of more than 80 scientific publications, a number of robotic prototypes, and various professional software applications. He is the annual chairman or organizer of several scientific conferences (MARS, MESAS, and others), Chairman of the Defence Scientific Committee for the AI and Robotics (CZE MOD), CZE NATO STO AVT representative, and a member of various  NATO groups (MCDC, NATO STO AVT/MSG/SAS, LCGLE/ToE-UGV).

As a lead scientist of an interdisciplinary team of researchers at the department Military Operations, at the unit Defense, Safety & Security TNO (The Netherlands Organisation for applied scientific research, founded by law in 1932 to enable business and government to apply knowledge) I combine theoretical and applied scientific research on the nexus of law, philosophy and AI technology (applied mathematics). In different engineering teams, I am the lead for formulating new questions on how to responsibly navigate AI development processes. In operational projects, for example, my role is to find new (technical) requirements and to build taxonomies and databases, all informed by ethics and the Rule of Law. This is necessary to establish (Responsible) AI applications which can be implemented in society.

Dr. Oleksandra Molloy

Dr Oleksandra Molloy – Ukrainian/Australian – is a defence aviation expert and one of the leading experts in drone warfare in Ukraine. In July 2025, Dr Molloy has been named ‘Academic of the Year’ by the Australian Defence Industry Awards. In her daily role, Dr Molloy is a Senior Lecturer in Human Factors and Aviation Safety, and the Lead of the Human Factors Research Lab in the School of Science of the University of New South Wales at the Australian Defence Force Academy (Canberra, Australia). Dr Molloy is a research trailblazer and award-winning leader who conducts multi-disciplinary research in human factors, transport safety, emerging technologies (i.e., uncrewed systems), education and training. In the area of uncrewed systems, Dr Molloy has led the first evidence-based research “Drones in Modern Warfare: Lessons Learnt from the War in Ukraine” (supported by the Australian Army Research Centre, Department of Defence). Oleksandra is also leading the Defence Trailblazer project together with industry on developing AI-assisted approach to assess cognitive load for Mission Aircrew/UAS operators, and support research on AI on the Battlefield: Examining Ethical Decision Making in a Military AI Vision System.
Dr Molloy has a PhD in Aviation (UNSW, Australia); a MSc in Human Factors (University of Nottingham, UK); a Master of Education (Central Ukrainian State Pedagogical University, Ukraine); a Graduate Research Certificate (Kirovograd Flight Academy of National Aviation University, Ukraine); and a Diploma in Aviation Safety (International Air Transport Association, Canada). Dr Molloy is serving as a Chair of the Human Factors & Ergonomics Society Training Technical Group (USA). Dr Molloy has served as a Board Director and Vice President of Education at the Advanced Air Mobility Institute (USA),
In 2024, for her achievements, Dr Molloy has been named a winner - Best Researcher from the International Media and Education Studies; Best Training and Development Program by the Defence and National Security Workforce Awards; Woman of the Year by HFE WOMAN Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (USA); ADM Women in Defence Awards, Research & Development; and an Industry Leader in AAM by eVTOL Insights (UK). Before joining MSIAC he has been responsible for technology studies of warheads and SAF systems as R&D project manager and engineer at TDW Warhead systems. This work included international projects in the fields of Loitering Munitions, future area denial / counter mobility solutions, supersonic and hypersonic penetrator systems, reactive fragment anti-air and insensitive multi-purpose warheads. In this role he contributed to over 16 patents in the weapons/munitions domain and won several Best-Patent and Technology Awards within the MBDA Group.

Major Volodymyr Kuzminskyi

Major Volodymyr Kuzminskyi currently serves as Officer of the Development Department of the Unmanned Systems in the Unmanned System Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Volodymyr is responsible for capturing and synthesising frontline lessons from Russia’s war against Ukraine to inform and strengthen operational doctrine for UAVs and maritime uncrewed systems.

Major Volodymyr Kuzminskyi previously served as the commander of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Platoon within the Intelligence Company of the 101st Separate Brigade for the Protection of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, named after Colonel General Hennadiy Vorobyov. He holds certifications for operating a wide range of UAVs: multi rotor copters, FPV drones, and fixed-wing drones.

Volodymyr Kuzminskyi has significant combat experience. He successfully carried out combat missions in the Donetsk and Kharkiv regions, including strike operations using FPV kamikaze drones and providing battalions with reconnaissance intelligence at operational depth.

Major Kuzminskyi is a recipient of the “Silver Cross” and the “Cross of Military Honor” (both in 2023), awarded by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He has been serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine since the first days of the full-scale Russian invasion. His military career began in 1990–1992 as a Staff Sergeant in the Marine Corps. In 1996, he completed a military course at the Kyiv Taras Shevchenko Military Institute in the processing of aerial reconnaissance data and was commissioned as a Lieutenant (reserve).

Major Kuzminskyi holds a PhD in Planning, Management, and Regulation of the Economy, as well as a master’s degree in Organisation Management. He is also a qualified engineer in Hydrology and Engineering Geology. In 2007, he was awarded a scholarship from the John Smith Trust in the United Kingdom, and in 2023 he completed training at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) on Global System in Transition and Ukraine’s Reconstruction.

Prior to 2022, Dr. Kuzminskyi worked as a Senior Associate Consultant at Oxford Policy Management. His consultancy work involved advising local, regional, and national governments in Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Armenia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan on child welfare and social protection reforms.

Professor Mark Voskuijl

Mark Voskuijl is professor weapon- and aviation systems at the Faculty of Military Sciences of the Netherlands Defence Academy since 2018. He is a specialist in the field of flight performance, stability and control of both (unmanned) fixed wing aircraft and rotorcraft. His research is currently focused on the following topics:

Loitering munitions and Counter-UAS
Development and integration of maritime unmanned aircraft systems
Effective (future) helicopter operations
He is the (co-)author of more than 80 publications in the field of (unmanned) aircraft and rotorcraft flight simulation. Currently Mark is the chairman of the Educational Board of the Bachelor of Science program Military Systems and Technology of the Netherlands Defence Academy.
From 2007 until 2018, Mark was assistant professor flight mechanics and propulsion at Delft University of Technology. There he was responsible for research and education related to flight mechanics and aircraft design.
Before joining Delft University, Mark completed his PhD at the Flight Science and Technology research group of the University of Liverpool within the Helicopter Active Control Technology Project. This project involved close collaboration with the National Research Council of Canada. Extensive use was made of their advanced systems research aircraft, a fly-by-wire Bell 412 helicopter.
Mark’s interest and passion for the field of flight performance, stability and control was originally sparked by work placements as a graduate student at the handling qualities department of Boeing helicopters and the helicopters and aeroacoustics department of the Netherlands Aerospace Center (NLR).

Yevgen Kuchma constitutes a part of the UAV development cell within the Unmanned Systems Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The unit tasks vary from field and combat testing of new UAVs to prognosticating the necessary technical changes for the future UAV systems to be used in combat to dealing with foreign partners regarding the prospects of UAS usage within the branch.
An ISR/strike drone operator before, he has recently been a part of Lessons Learned group with the main goal to collect and analyze the frontline observations regarding the use of the Unmanned Vehicles by both sides of the war.

An IT specialist and consultant in civilian life, mostly engaged in developing video games.

Yvan Grigorieff started his military career in 1995. Throughout his career within the Belgian Air Defence Artillery, he fulfilled numerous functions from squad level up to Corps level. Some key roles were Platoon Sergeant, Battery Sergeant Major, Battalion NCO Operations (AS3), Liaison officer, Airspace Manager and NATO TACEVAL GBAD Evaluator. He did two operational deployments to Afghanistan and participated in numerous Homeland Security Operations.
Currently, he is posted in the Belgian Defence - Directorate General Material Resources within the Land Systems Division as a Lifecycle Manager of Ground-Based Air Defence (GBAD), Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (C-UAS), and loitering munitions.
Since 2020, he has expanded his expertise to the international stage, engaging in numerous projects within NATO. As the secretary of the NATO High Visibility Project Land Battle Decisive Munitions (LBDM), Yvan has played a pivotal role in enhancing NATO’s capabilities and visibility. Also is he co-chairing the Land Combat Missiles, Rockets and Loitering Munitions SubGroup. His leadership also extends to the position of secretary for the NATO HVP Multinational Ammunition Warehousing Initiative (MAWI), where he manages and coordinates efforts to improve multinational ammunition warehousing. Within the NATO Army Armaments Group - Land Capability Group Dismounted Soldier Systems (LCGDSS), Land Combat Missiles, Rockets and Loitering Munitions SubGroup, he is also the acting secretary.
In addition to these roles, Yvan also serves as the alternate Belgian Representative to the NATO C-UAS Working Group and the Joint Capability Group Surface-based Air and Missile Defence.
Moreover, Yvan is co-chair of the European Defence Agency (EDA) Capability Expert Group on Land-based Precision Engagement, leading efforts to enhance precision engagement capabilities within the European Defence Agency.

WHAT IS CPD?

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development’. It is essentially a philosophy, which maintains that in order to be effective, learning should be organised and structured. The most common definition is:

‘A commitment to structured skills and knowledge enhancement for Personal or Professional competence’

CPD is a common requirement of individual membership with professional bodies and Institutes. Increasingly, employers also expect their staff to undertake regular CPD activities.

Undertaken over a period of time, CPD ensures that educational qualifications do not become obsolete, and allows for best practice and professional standards to be upheld.

CPD can be undertaken through a variety of learning activities including instructor led training courses, seminars and conferences, e:learning modules or structured reading.

CPD AND PROFESSIONAL INSTITUTES

There are approximately 470 institutes in the UK across all industry sectors, with a collective membership of circa 4 million professionals, and they all expect their members to undertake CPD.

For some institutes undertaking CPD is mandatory e.g. accountancy and law, and linked to a licence to practice, for others it’s obligatory. By ensuring that their members undertake CPD, the professional bodies seek to ensure that professional standards, legislative awareness and ethical practices are maintained.

CPD Schemes often run over the period of a year and the institutes generally provide online tools for their members to record and reflect on their CPD activities.

TYPICAL CPD SCHEMES AND RECORDING OF CPD (CPD points and hours)

Professional bodies and Institutes CPD schemes are either structured as ‘Input’ or ‘Output’ based.

‘Input’ based schemes list a precise number of CPD hours that individuals must achieve within a given time period. These schemes can also use different ‘currencies’ such as points, merits, units or credits, where an individual must accumulate the number required. These currencies are usually based on time i.e. 1 CPD point = 1 hour of learning.

‘Output’ based schemes are learner centred. They require individuals to set learning goals that align to professional competencies, or personal development objectives. These schemes also list different ways to achieve the learning goals e.g. training courses, seminars or e:learning, which enables an individual to complete their CPD through their preferred mode of learning.

The majority of Input and Output based schemes actively encourage individuals to seek appropriate CPD activities independently.

As a formal provider of CPD certified activities, SAE Media Group can provide an indication of the learning benefit gained and the typical completion. However, it is ultimately the responsibility of the delegate to evaluate their learning, and record it correctly in line with their professional body’s or employers requirements.

Increasingly, international and emerging markets are ‘professionalising’ their workforces and looking to the UK to benchmark educational standards. The undertaking of CPD is now increasingly expected of any individual employed within today’s global marketplace.
