Mr. Andrew Evans entered the Senior Executive Service in August 2023 as the Director of the Army ISR Task Force under the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-2. He oversees an organization missioned to manage modernization efforts across the Army's Intelligence and Security Enterprise. Mr. Evans also leads Global Force Management activities for the Army’s Aerial ISR portfolio, including oversight of a $1.4 Billion MDEP supporting manned and unmanned assets across the Total Force. Mr. Evans holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Furman University, a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Phoenix University, and a certificate in Advanced Management from Harvard Business School.

Craig Riedel

Mr. Craig Riedel is the Project Manager for the Tactical Aviation and Ground Munitions (TAGM) Project Office, Program Executive Office, Missiles and Space. As the Project Manager, Mr. Riedel is responsible for the lifecycle management of Aviation lethality, ground based Anti Tank Guided Munitions., and lethal launched effects. His portfolio includes TOW, ITAS, JAGM, Javelin, Hellfire, Hydra Rockets, Containerized Weapon System, Long Range Precision Munition, APKWS, Precision Fires Manager, EAGLS, Dragon Fire and Archer. Craig is responsible for the R&D, contracting, fielding and logistical support of these munitions and related launchers. Mr. Riedel has emphasized the need to continually modernize these systems to maintain combat effectiveness and expand the way they can be used as the Army transforms how it fights.

Lieutenant Colonel Alan Wood

LTC Alan Wood is the PM for SOF Lethality within USSOCOM having formerly served as the Product Director for Special Ops Mission Planning and Execution.

Previously, LTC Wood spent 4 years within USASOAC. As the Product Director for SOCOM Future Vertical Lift (TAPO, Ft Eustis), where he managed SOCOM’s efforts with the US Army on multiple Future Vertical Lift Programs. He also served in the USASOAC G8 (Ft Bragg) as the Rotary Wing Portfolio Manager where he managed the command’s input to the H47 Extended Range Foreign Military Sales program as well as “right sizing” the unit during budget downturns.

From 2017-2019, LTC Wood served as an APM in the Army’s PEO Aviation. He was the APM for the Degraded Visual Environment Pilotage System (DVEPS), leading the organization through developmental and operation test phases. Prior to DVEPS, he served as the APM for CH-47F Block 1 and led the organization through a 6-month negotiation with Boeing, resulting in over $500M in savings on a $4.6B 5-year IDIQ contract. His first APM position was in PM UAS where he oversaw the final fielding and bulk purchases of the One System Remote Video Terminal (OSRVT).

LTC Wood’s first acquisition assignment took him to the Defense Contract Management Agency at Bell Helicopter where he served as the Program Integrator for Army Programs from 2013-2016. In this capacity he executed the ramp down and divestiture of the Kiowa Warrior.

During his operational time as an OH-58D pilot, LTC Wood served at Ft Campbell as two-time Scout Platoon leader, Maintenance Troop XO, AS3, S4 and Troop Commander. He deployed twice to Afghanistan while in these units.

LTC Wood graduated from the United States Military Academy (2005). He earned a Master of Business Administration from Texas Christian University’s EMBA (2015), graduating at the top of his class.

LTC Wood’s Awards decorations include the Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Medal (2), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal and the Combat Action Badge. He is a graduate of Airborne, Air Assault, OH-58D Flight School XXI, Aviation Maintenance Officer Course, the Aviation Captain’s Career Course, a distinguished graduate of the Command and General’s Staff Officer’s Course and various acquisition courses. He is a DAWIA Certified Advanced Program Manager and Acquisition Corp Member.

Alan is a native of Tyler, Texas and enjoys family time. He married the former Anne Dill of Lebanon, TN in 2005 and they have four children, Caleb (11), Daniel (9), Caroline (7), and Julianne (5).

Lieutenant Colonel C. Hunter Gray is a distinguished military graduate of the University of Mississippi’s Reserve Officer Training Corps program. He has completed key development assignments as a platoon leader in Charlie Troop, 3-17 Cavalry, as the company commander of Delta Company, 2-158 Assault Helicopter Battalion and Bravo Company, 46th Aviation Support Battalion, and as an Assistant Product Manager. LTC Gray has completed a variety of broadening assignments, including the Assistant Executive Officer and Deputy Director of Strategic Initiatives for the Deputy Commanding General of Acquisition and Systems at US Army Futures Command.

LTC Gray deployed to Operation Enduring Freedom in 2009 as an air cavalry platoon leader. While deployed, he led missions in Regional Command East as a Kiowa Warrior pilot-in-command and air-mission-commander. In 2014, he deployed to Operation Enduring Freedom as an aviation maintenance company commander. While there, he led Army aviation maintenance in Regional Commands West and Southwest.

LTC Gray’s acquisition experience includes major defense acquisition program procurement, software integration, contractor logistics support, and organic sustainment. He has served in PEO Missiles and Space and PEO Aviation.

LTC Gray holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Mississippi, a Master of Business Administration from Auburn University at Montgomery, a Master of Military Operational Art and Science from Air University, and a PhD in Technology from Purdue University.

LTC Gray’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Medal with Valor, the Air Medal with Numeral 2, the Army Commendation Medal with 3 Oak Leaf clusters, and the Army Achievement Medal, the Meritorious Unit Commendation with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, the Combat Action Badge, the Senior Army Aviator Badge, and the Parachutist Badge. LTC Gray is rated in the OH-58D and the H-60A/L.

He is married to the former Miss Emily Williams of Oxford, MS. They have 4 daughters. They are members at Whitesburg Baptist Church.

WHAT IS CPD?

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development’. It is essentially a philosophy, which maintains that in order to be effective, learning should be organised and structured. The most common definition is:

‘A commitment to structured skills and knowledge enhancement for Personal or Professional competence’

CPD is a common requirement of individual membership with professional bodies and Institutes. Increasingly, employers also expect their staff to undertake regular CPD activities.

Undertaken over a period of time, CPD ensures that educational qualifications do not become obsolete, and allows for best practice and professional standards to be upheld.

CPD can be undertaken through a variety of learning activities including instructor led training courses, seminars and conferences, e:learning modules or structured reading.

CPD AND PROFESSIONAL INSTITUTES

There are approximately 470 institutes in the UK across all industry sectors, with a collective membership of circa 4 million professionals, and they all expect their members to undertake CPD.

For some institutes undertaking CPD is mandatory e.g. accountancy and law, and linked to a licence to practice, for others it’s obligatory. By ensuring that their members undertake CPD, the professional bodies seek to ensure that professional standards, legislative awareness and ethical practices are maintained.

CPD Schemes often run over the period of a year and the institutes generally provide online tools for their members to record and reflect on their CPD activities.

TYPICAL CPD SCHEMES AND RECORDING OF CPD (CPD points and hours)

Professional bodies and Institutes CPD schemes are either structured as ‘Input’ or ‘Output’ based.

‘Input’ based schemes list a precise number of CPD hours that individuals must achieve within a given time period. These schemes can also use different ‘currencies’ such as points, merits, units or credits, where an individual must accumulate the number required. These currencies are usually based on time i.e. 1 CPD point = 1 hour of learning.

‘Output’ based schemes are learner centred. They require individuals to set learning goals that align to professional competencies, or personal development objectives. These schemes also list different ways to achieve the learning goals e.g. training courses, seminars or e:learning, which enables an individual to complete their CPD through their preferred mode of learning.

The majority of Input and Output based schemes actively encourage individuals to seek appropriate CPD activities independently.

As a formal provider of CPD certified activities, SAE Media Group can provide an indication of the learning benefit gained and the typical completion. However, it is ultimately the responsibility of the delegate to evaluate their learning, and record it correctly in line with their professional body’s or employers requirements.

GLOBAL CPD

Increasingly, international and emerging markets are ‘professionalising’ their workforces and looking to the UK to benchmark educational standards. The undertaking of CPD is now increasingly expected of any individual employed within today’s global marketplace.
