His research interests focus on ICT operational planning at the tactical level, counter-drone measures for all troop types, and data-driven decision-making.
Among his key career milestones are his roles as Platoon Commander of a Signal Company, Signal Officer and S6 of the 3rd Mechanized Infantry Brigade, as well as lecturer and researcher at the University of Applied Military Sciences at the Theresan Military Academy. He is also the designated commander of Signal Battalion 1 (FüUB1) in Villach.

 Colonel Martin Hlavácek holds a position of the Future CIS Branch Head, where he leads the development of Czech Army communication and information systems, the implementation of new capabilities, programmes, and projects and aligns the future CIS infrastructure to the strategic requirements of the Armed Forces.
Throughout his career colonel Hlavacek gathered experience in technical, management, and commanding positions, including a three year assignemnt to NATO Allied Command Transformation or the position of the IT Service Delivery Center Commander.
He is a graduate of the Military Academy in Brno, NDU CIO Program, and US Army War College.

Colonel Mietta Groeneveld

Colonel Mietta Groeneveld

 Colonel Mietta Groeneveld is the Director of the NATO
Command & Control Centre of Excellence (C2COE). The C2COE’s
mission is to accelerate NATO’s transformation in Command
and Control, focusing on enabling Multi-Domain Operations,
advancing multinational headquarters through technology, and
enhancing decision-making in the age of AI.
Since joining the military in 1986, Colonel Groeneveld has held
key command and staff positions at technical, operational, and
strategic levels. She earned a Master’s in Applied Physics from
TU Delft and completed the Canadian National Security
Program and the EU High-Level Course on Security & Defence.
She has represented the Netherlands in NATO committees,
chaired the BENELUX Arms Control Agency, and served on
multiple international boards. A recognized expert in emerging
technologies and cybersecurity, she frequently speaks at NATO
and technology events.
Her deployments include a 2002 mission to Kyrgyzstan and a 2017-2018 tour in Afghanistan.

Colonel Vadym Slyusar

 Vadym Slyusar is a Doctor of Sciences, Professor, and Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine (2008). He received his Candidate of Sciences degree in 1992, his Doctor of Sciences degree in 2000, and was awarded the academic title of Professor in the specialty “Military Cybernetics, Control Systems, and Communications” (2005).
Prof. Slyusar is the author of over 1,025 publications, including 72 copyright certificates and patents. As a scientific advisor and supervisor, he has guided 16 Candidates of Sciences, 1 PhD and 2 Doctors of Sciences, cultivating the next generation of researchers in critical technological domains.
An innovative and forward-thinking researcher with extensive experience in radio frequency engineering, artificial intelligence (AI), and quantum systems. Recognized as a pioneer of concepts N-OFDM (1992), UAV swarm-based air defense systems (2019), and multi-agent LLM architectures for robotic platforms. He introduced novel matrix operations that are now widely applied in AI and statistical data processing. His contributions have led to new research directions in data transmission, as well as technological advancements in both hardware and software, including augmented and mixed reality systems. He demonstrated ability to identify emerging trends ahead of their time and transform abstract concepts into implementable and efficient solutions.

Dr Anna Mysyshyn

Dr Anna Mysyshyn

 Dr. Anna Mysyshyn is a Ukrainian expert in AI, cybersecurity, and digital governance, with a specialised focus on defence and national security. With over a decade of international experience, she advises on the legal and ethical regulation of AI, autonomous systems, and emerging technologies in warfare.
She has provided strategic guidance to NATO, the EU Defence Delegation in Ukraine, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, and the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Cyberspace and Digital Policy. As the Co-founder and Director of the Institute of Innovative Governance, Anna has led 15+ national and international projects focused on secure digital transformation, AI policy, and protection of digital rights in times of war.
Her organisation serves as an official watchdog to the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, where she advises on AI and cybersecurity regulation. She also developed and authored a cybersecurity training course for the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, tailored for military personnel and focused on emerging threats and digital battlefield resilience.
Anna holds a PhD in Law (Ukraine), an LL.M. in Innovation, Technology, and the Law from the University of Edinburgh (UK), and a degree in International Law from Tartu University (Estonia). She also completed the Cyberspace and Society programme at the University of Oxford.
Her research includes work at the German Marshall Fund of the United States on the ethical use of military AI, autonomous systems, and surveillance technologies. She was the lead author of the GMF report “Advanced Technologies in the War in Ukraine: Risks for Democracy and Human Rights”. Additionally, she conducts legal research on the admissibility of satellite and AI-generated evidence in war crimes trials, in collaboration with Global Rights Compliance and Edinburgh Law School.
A frequent speaker at international conferences and military briefings, she has delivered over 100 lectures, trainings, and presentations across 20+ countries. Her work bridges technical innovation with legal accountability and democratic values.

Kim Kristiansen

 Captain Kristiansen is at the Norwegian Army Land Warfare Centre’s Signals School where he works with the development of doctrine and tactics for the NOR Army Signal Corps, and with the training of new Signals officers. He also works closely with experimentation, testing and procurement of future CIS-capabilities, and is the Army representative in an Agile team working with the implementation of commercial 5G-technology for military use-cases.

Career:
2009 – NOR Army/Garrison of Sør-Varanger (GSV), conscript, border guard at the Norwegian-Russian border.
2010-2012 – NOR Army/Brigade North/Telemark Battalion/Cavalery squadron/Recce platoon, enlisted, ranger/cav.scout.
2012-2013 – NOR Army NCO-training, infantry NCO and leadership training.
2013-2016 – NOR Army Military Academy (officers’ training), Bachelor of Science in land-based tactics and military leadership. At the end of Army officers’ training Kristiansen received training to specialize as a Signals Officer and became part of the Norwegian Army Signal Corps.
2016-2018 – NOR Army/Brigade North/Military Police company/Signals platoon – Platoon commander.
2018-2020 – NOR Army/Brigade North/Signals Battalion/Battalion staff – S-2 Intelligence- and security-officer

Lieutenant Colonel Kruno Striga

 Lieutenant colonel Kruno Striga serves as a deployable CIS officer in the Croatian Armed Forces. After earning a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, he joined forces in 2003 as a platoon leader in the Signal Brigade. Over two decades, he advanced through roles as company commander, battalion S-6, NATO Signal Battalion S-3 Plans, and currently works within the General Staff J-6. He holds a Master’s in Electrical Engineering, is a graduate of the U.S. Army Signal School and the Croatian Defense Academy Command and Staff School, and has deployed twice to Afghanistan. He is married, father of three, and a recreational athlete.

WHAT IS CPD?

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development’. It is essentially a philosophy, which maintains that in order to be effective, learning should be organised and structured. The most common definition is:

‘A commitment to structured skills and knowledge enhancement for Personal or Professional competence’

CPD is a common requirement of individual membership with professional bodies and Institutes. Increasingly, employers also expect their staff to undertake regular CPD activities.

Undertaken over a period of time, CPD ensures that educational qualifications do not become obsolete, and allows for best practice and professional standards to be upheld.

CPD can be undertaken through a variety of learning activities including instructor led training courses, seminars and conferences, e:learning modules or structured reading.

There are approximately 470 institutes in the UK across all industry sectors, with a collective membership of circa 4 million professionals, and they all expect their members to undertake CPD.

For some institutes undertaking CPD is mandatory e.g. accountancy and law, and linked to a licence to practice, for others it’s obligatory. By ensuring that their members undertake CPD, the professional bodies seek to ensure that professional standards, legislative awareness and ethical practices are maintained.

CPD Schemes often run over the period of a year and the institutes generally provide online tools for their members to record and reflect on their CPD activities.

TYPICAL CPD SCHEMES AND RECORDING OF CPD (CPD points and hours)

Professional bodies and Institutes CPD schemes are either structured as ‘Input’ or ‘Output’ based.

‘Input’ based schemes list a precise number of CPD hours that individuals must achieve within a given time period. These schemes can also use different ‘currencies’ such as points, merits, units or credits, where an individual must accumulate the number required. These currencies are usually based on time i.e. 1 CPD point = 1 hour of learning.

‘Output’ based schemes are learner centred. They require individuals to set learning goals that align to professional competencies, or personal development objectives. These schemes also list different ways to achieve the learning goals e.g. training courses, seminars or e:learning, which enables an individual to complete their CPD through their preferred mode of learning.

The majority of Input and Output based schemes actively encourage individuals to seek appropriate CPD activities independently.

As a formal provider of CPD certified activities, SAE Media Group can provide an indication of the learning benefit gained and the typical completion. However, it is ultimately the responsibility of the delegate to evaluate their learning, and record it correctly in line with their professional body’s or employers requirements.
