SAE Media Group is delighted to announce that the Future Armoured Vehicles Central & Eastern Europe conference will return to Prague for its 12th year between the 18-19 May 2026.

The Future Armoured Vehicles Central and Eastern Europe conference is the premier meeting for armoured vehicle programme managers and military commanders from within the Central and Eastern European region.

In response to the ever-increasing digitalisation of the modern battlefield, and the emergence of new near-peer adversaries, there is a continuing requirement for the modernisation of armoured vehicle systems across the region.

A world class event focused on military vehicles based in Europe, assisting with the continued learning and development of armoured vehicle programme managers and practitioners through briefings, panel sessions and focused discussion groups.

Brigadier General António José Fernandes de Oliveira is currently the Commander of the Mechanized Brigade of the Portuguese Army.
Throughout his 37 years of service, he held positions in several Units, including, Commander of the Special Operations Troops Center; 2nd Commander of the Intervention Brigade; Chief of the Planning Division in the Army General Staff; Military Advisor to the Minister of National Defence and Professor at the Institute of Higher Military Studies.
He has service commissions in Kosovo and was posted to NATO Headquarters (SHAPE), Capability Development Branch.
He has a PhD in International Relations from Universidade Nova de Lisboa

Brigadier General Gächter is in charge of the Armour and Artillery Training Unit. He is responsible for
the basic training of the armour and artillery forces and accountable to the Chief of Training and
Education Command.


The armour and artillery recruit, the NCO and officer schools, the command for tests, the military training
area in Thun with its mechanised training centre, and the military training area in Bière with its artillery
training centre all report to Brigadier General Gächter. Together with his staff, he ensures the further
development of the operational doctrine and the technical procedures for the armour and artillery units,
and he supports the introduction of new equipment and vehicles.

Colonel Alessandro Vivarelli

Colonel Alessandro VIVARELLI was born in Pistoia (PT), Italy, on January 5th, 1977. He attended the 178th Regular Course at the Military Academy in MODENA (1996–1998) and continued his education at the Application School in TURIN (1998–2001).


Commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Paratroopers in 2001, he was assigned to the 183rd Paratroopers Regiment “NEMBO” in PISTOIA, where he served as both Platoon Commander and Anti-Tank Company Commander. During this period, he took part in multiple deployments under Operation “Joint Guardian” in Kosovo (2002, 2003, 2004–2005), as well as in various training activities within his specialty.

In 2005, he was transferred to the 186th Paratroopers Regiment “FOLGORE” in SIENA, where he served as Rifle Company Commander, Regimental Staff Officer, and Chief of the Logistics Office. During this assignment, he took part in Operation “Leonte 2” in Lebanon within the framework of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). He was also involved in national operations such as “Domino” (for the 2006 Winter Olympics in TURIN) and “Strade Sicure” (Caserta, 2008). Additionally, he was deployed to Afghanistan from 2008 to 2009, serving as Staff Officer (J5, Plans & Policy) within the French-led Regional Command Capital.

In 2011, after completing the 136th General Staff Course, he was assigned to the Army General Staff – Office of the Army Chief of Staff, where he served as General Staff Officer.

From June 2012 to May 2014, Colonel VIVARELLI attended both the Command and General Staff Officer Course and the Advanced Military Studies Program at the Command and General Staff College and the School of Advanced Military Studies in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas (USA). Upon returning to Italy, he was reassigned to the Army General Staff and subsequently to the Defence General Staff, again as General Staff Officer.

From July 2017 to July 2018, he commanded the 1st Paratroopers Battalion “Grizzano” of the 183rd Regiment “NEMBO,” during which he was deployed to Lebanon under the UNIFIL mission (Operation “Leonte”). After his command tour, Colonel VIVARELLI returned to the Army General Staff, where he was appointed Section Head within the Capability Development Branch, III Department General Planning.

Between 2022 and 2024, Colonel VIVARELLI served as the Commanding Officer of the 183rd Paratroopers Regiment “NEMBO.”

As of August 5th, 2024, he has been serving as Head of the Capability Development Branch within the Army General Staff, III Department General Planning.

Vadym Slyusar has more as 35 years of research experience in the areas of radar systems, smart antennas for wireless communications and digital beamforming. He earned Ph.D. in 1992, Doctor of Sciences in 2000, Professor in 2005, Honored Scientist and Technician of Ukraine in 2008 and has 68 patents, 805 publications in these areas ( 63 publications was included in SCOPUS (Author ID 7004240035) and 275 publications included in ORCID 0000-0002-2912-3149). He is authority in digital signals processing. Since 2009 - a Member of Editorial Board of Journal "Radioelectronics and Communications Systems". Scientific advisor of 15 PhDs (candidates of technics) and 2 Doctors of Science.

Colonel Yevhen Shamataliuk

Colonel Yevhen Shamataliuk

Yevhen Shamatalyuk was born on June 9, 1990, in the village of Tarasivka, Tulchyn District, Vinnytsia Region.
In 2005 he graduated from the Ivan Bohun Kyiv Military Lyceum.
In 2011 he completed his studies at the Land Forces Academy in Lviv.
Military Career:
He began his officer service as a platoon commander in the 79th Separate Airmobile Brigade. Since March 2014, Yevhen Shamatalyuk was on the front line.
In 2014 Yevhen Shamatalyuk suffered his first injury during a combat mission in Luhansk Region when the column he was leading was ambushed. After quick treatment, he returned to active duty.
In September of the same year, during the battles for the Donetsk Airport, he sustained serious injuries once again. Despite the severity of his wounds, he returned to service after rehabilitation. He continued his military career in various positions and carried out missions in the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) and Joint Forces Operation (JFO).
In 2022 he graduated from the National Defense University of Ukraine with a specialty in military management, obtaining the qualifications of an operational-level officer.
During the full-scale invasion in February 2022, he served as the commander of the 1st Air Assault Battalion of the 95th Separate Air Assault Brigade.
In 2022 he was appointed Chief of Staff and First Deputy Commander of the 95th Separate Air Assault Brigade.
Yevhen Shamatalyuk led the 79th Separate Air Assault Tavria Brigade between 2023 and 2024.
In 2024, by decision of the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Colonel Yevhen Shamatalyuk was appointed Deputy Commander of the Grand Hetman Kostiantyn Ostrogski Lithuanian-Polish-Ukrainian Brigade.
Participation in combat operations as part of the defence of Ukraine:
He took direct part in numerous battles and operations during the defense of Ukraine, including the liberation of the cities of Chervonyi Lyman and Sloviansk in 2014 and the battle for the Donetsk Airport.
Since the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022, he performed combat missions in the most challenging sectors of the front, particularly in Izyum, Kharkiv, Lyman, and Maryinka, where he directly commanded units during both defensive and offensive actions.
Awards:
The title of "Hero of Ukraine" with the Order of the Golden Star, awarded in 2022.
The Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky, 3rd Class, awarded in 2014.
The Cross of Merit, awarded in 2024.

He was born in 1970 in Karvina city, Silesia, Czech Republic.
He graduated from Military Academy of Antonin Zapotocky in Brno in 1994 and was commissioned to rank of Lieutenant.
Abroad he progressed Signal Captain Carrier Course in Fort Gordon Augusta, Georgia and Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, USA (2002 - 2003).
After graduation he served on various signal specialty and command positions of Air Force of Army of Czech Republic (Tower duty leading officer, Office and Company commander) in Air Force HQ and CIS Division of Army of Czech Republic (Brno 1994 - 1999 and Prague 2000 - 2011).
He served as United Nation Observer and Leading officer of United Nation Mission Contingent in Iraq in Suleymania, Iraq (1999 - 2000).
In 2011 he finished military carrier as Air Force Major and he is Active reservist of this Force.
2012 he was assigned as Defense Security Director of INDRA Sistemas Company in Prague office. He was responsible for armaments projects for Air Force and Ground Forces of Army of Czech Republic.

His carrier was continuing as Project manager in Military Technical Institute of Air Force and Air Defense Forces in Prague. His portfolio was CIS projects of Ground Forces of Army of Czech Republic.
His current position is now Project manager/Desk officer for armament and acquisitions of tank vehicles projects (T-72 M4CZ, Leopard 2A4 and Leopard 2A8) from May 2022.

On the 1st of August 2023, Major-General Constantin-Adrian Ciolponea has been appointed as SACT Representative in Europe. Prior to this, he was the Land Component Commander and also a Special Advisor to the Defence Minister. MGen. Constantin-Adrian Ciolponea received his commission in 1988, after graduating the Military School for Officers, Sibiu, as an infantry officer. In 2004, he graduated the High Military Studies Academy, Bucharest. He has been assigned to numerous command and staff positions for operations and training, reconnaissance, special operations and airborne operations (1000 + military jumps), both in Romania and abroad. Starting 2008, he commanded the 1st Special Operations Battalion, starting 2009 the 1st Special Operations Regiment and starting 2011 the 6th Special Operations Brigade. In 2015 he has been appointed Deputy Commander at the 4th Infantry Division and in 2016 became deputy Land Forces Commander for training and operations. During 2017-2021, MGen Constantin-Adrian Ciolponea was the Romanian National Military Representative to Supreme Headquarters Allied Power Europe (SHAPE), Mons, Belgium and was the Dean of the National Military Representatives. From 2021 to 2022, he was appointed as the Deputy Commander of the Multinational Corps Southeast in Sibiu, Romania. Abroad, he served in a variety of assignments, most notably being: UN Military Observer Democratic Republic of Congo (2000-2001); Staff Officer in Afghanistan (2008, 2010, 2013); Staff Officer in Kosovo (2009). His military education includes several international courses, including: Army's Rangers Course for Officers, USA, (1996 – 1997 completion certificate) Special Operations Course, USA (2005); Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California, USA (2006 - 2007); Advance Program in Security Studies, George C. Marshall European Centre for Security Studies, Germany (2010); Counter Terrorism Special Forces Advanced Course, USA (2014); National War College, USA (2014 - 2015). MG Constantin-Adrian CIOLPONEA's decorations and awards include: UN Medal; The Army Achievement Medal; The Army Commendation Medal; General Staff Badge of Honour; Romanian Army Honour Emblem; Military Veteran Honorific title; Land Forces Emblem of Honour; National Order Military Virtue in rank of Knight; Air Force Emblem of Honour; Naval Forces Emblem of Honour in service of the Homeland – for 25 years of service" Honorary sign. Major General Jonny Lindfors

Major General Jonny Lindfors assumed Command over the Swedish
Army on June 18, 2023. Prior to this he held the position as the
Armed Forces expert in the National Defense Commission, tasked
with preparing the next white book of Sweden’s National Defense.
He was born and raised in Kiruna where he also spent his early
service years as a Ranger Officer at the Lappland Ranger Regiment.
After a period focused on technical systems and maintenance within
the infantry he turned to positions of command.
His command assignments include the King’s Battalion at the Royal
Lifeguard Regiment as well as the Norrbotten Regiment, a
Mechanized Brigade platform.
He also commanded the Joint Force Training Directorate with the
responsibility of manning and training the Swedish Armed Forces.
The task included planning, execution and coordination of
operational level exercises, managing the finances and allocating
resources and tasks regarding manning and training for the Joint
Force Generation.
During his career he has also been deployed, serving among
Swedish units in Afghanistan and Kosovo.
In addition to studies at the Swedish Military Academies and a
Master’s Degree in War Science from the Swedish National Defence
University, he also holds a Master’s Degree in Strategy from US Army
War College. He is also a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of
War Science.
Being born and raised in Kiruna, the northernmost city of Sweden,
having alpine skiing, hiking and ice hockey as his favorite hobbies
comes natural. Jonny was for example one of few who celebrated
New Year’s Eve 1999 at the peak of Kebnekaise, Sweden’s tallest
mountain situated in the northern part of Sweden.

Biography Matthias Raith

In 1990, after graduating from high school, Matthias joined the German armed forces as an officer candidate.
After successfully studying electrical engineering, he has gone through numerous military positions as section or team leader, deputy commander or commander. He was responsible for technical and logistical readiness of weapon systems as well as for armament projects.
In his current position as technical section leader for BOXER vehicles at OCCAR, he is responsible for all activities in the field of systems engineering related to the design and development and series production phases of the BOXER programme.

WHAT IS CPD?

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development’. It is essentially a philosophy, which maintains that in order to be effective, learning should be organised and structured. The most common definition is:

‘A commitment to structured skills and knowledge enhancement for Personal or Professional competence’

CPD is a common requirement of individual membership with professional bodies and Institutes. Increasingly, employers also expect their staff to undertake regular CPD activities.

Undertaken over a period of time, CPD ensures that educational qualifications do not become obsolete, and allows for best practice and professional standards to be upheld.

CPD can be undertaken through a variety of learning activities including instructor led training courses, seminars and conferences, e:learning modules or structured reading.

CPD AND PROFESSIONAL INSTITUTES

There are approximately 470 institutes in the UK across all industry sectors, with a collective membership of circa 4 million professionals, and they all expect their members to undertake CPD.

For some institutes undertaking CPD is mandatory e.g. accountancy and law, and linked to a licence to practice, for others it’s obligatory. By ensuring that their members undertake CPD, the professional bodies seek to ensure that professional standards, legislative awareness and ethical practices are maintained.

CPD Schemes often run over the period of a year and the institutes generally provide online tools for their members to record and reflect on their CPD activities.

TYPICAL CPD SCHEMES AND RECORDING OF CPD (CPD points and hours)

Professional bodies and Institutes CPD schemes are either structured as ‘Input’ or ‘Output’ based.

‘Input’ based schemes list a precise number of CPD hours that individuals must achieve within a given time period. These schemes can also use different ‘currencies’ such as points, merits, units or credits, where an individual must accumulate the number required. ‘Output’ based schemes are learner centred. They require individuals to set learning goals that align to professional competencies, or personal development objectives.
